Our electricians want to remind you of some things to remember about installing home electric generators.
First, most electrical generators run on gas, and so (obviously) should not be setup indoors – in a garage for instance. The exhaust can be deadly.
Second, you can plug appliances into the generator, but be very careful about connecting a generator directly into your home’s electrical system. You can easily create a fire hazard.
In addition, you could be ‘back-feeding’ electricity along the line from your house into the grid. You could be putting utility crews in serious danger. Crews are trained to check the lines for generator back-feed, but why risk it?
